We are excited to introduce James Hughes and Steve Dellow as our official community ambassadors for race day 2025 and beyond!
Both James and Steve are pillars of the Reading running community, known for their enthusiasm, dedication, and incredible support of fellow runners.
They’ll be helping our staff and volunteers in the lead-up to the event and on race day itself, bringing their passion and energy to every step of the journey. Be sure to say hello and give them a cheer when you see them.

I've been running about 15 years. Originally I started running to lose weight but I soon fell in love with it and found it not only rewarding but also a really fun social activity.
I wanted to be an ambassador as there's nothing more rewarding than encouraging other runners and helping them achieve their goals.

STEVE DELLOW
I live, work and Run in Reading. I’ve been running for over 30 years and completed the Reading Half Marathon over 20 times. I’m a member of Reading Roadrunners as well as The RunStrong Project where I’m assisting and helping the coaches. I also love Park Run and am a regular in Reading TVP and the surrounding parks. I also run and organise an annual 10k and 5k race at my local school in Caversham!
My tip for running success is Variety! Change the course you run on; run short, run long, and run up those hills ! Change and vary your running partner – run alone, run with a friend and join a club and run with them!
I love the Reading Half Marathon as it’s my local event, I’ve run it many times and often train over parts of the course. The steel band under the IDR, the Rock Choir in the University, the amazing finish at Madejski Stadium and crowds of people 4 or 5 deep throughout the route as well as lots of my friends all make it a special day I always look forward to!
Get in touch and enter the race or why don’t you join our band of Volunteers and help on the day.

I am a 46 year old mother of three from Reading, Berkshire.
Having been an obligatory treadmill runner as part of a monotonous gym routine: I took up road-running during Covid. The imminent closure of gyms and a burdening home schooling routine encouraged me to look for an outlet.
I’d previously admired those pounding the pavement as I didn’t have the confidence to run in public for fear of judgement and I was also a fair weather person!
The Reading Half Marathon in November 2021 was my first organised mass participation race. Since then I have ran 8 marathons, 6 of which (world Marathon Majors) I ran in 2025.
I ran the Reading Half again in 2025; the crowds really showed up, the entertainment was fantastic and above all, the community feel was up lifting.
As a British Asian woman I really wanted to act as an ambassador for this incredible event to represent but also to show that anyone can run, if they so wish.

Running started for me at just 10 years old, lining up beside my dad at our local parkrun in TVP. What began as a weekend run together soon became something much bigger. Watching Mo Farah win double Olympic gold at the Summer Olympics lit a fire in me if he could achieve that on the world stage, why couldn’t I chase my own goals? And seeing Fauja Singh run marathons at 89 taught me something even more powerful: there are no limits when mindset leads the way.
In one unforgettable year, I challenged myself to complete every major distance 5K, 10K, Half Marathon, Marathon and even 100K. It wasn’t just about endurance; it was about proving to myself that growth lives outside comfort zones.
The Reading Half Marathon holds a special place in my heart. As a child, I recall standing at the bottom of Kendrick Road cheering runners on, imagining one day I’d be part of that energy. That dream became reality when I ran the course with a speaker on my shoulder and the Nepalese flag draped across me representing my heritage, my community, and the belief that running is for everyone. A home crowd. A home race.
As a Reading Crew Leader for Runderbolts and a representative of the Reading Nepali Runners group, I’m passionate about inclusion and diversity in our sport. Seeing more runners from different communities on start lines, building confidence, health and happiness through running that’s what truly drives me. Whether you’re chasing a PB or just starting out, we all began somewhere.
My message is simple:
You can do anything you put your mind to. If you can move, then you can run. Mindset over everything.
